Hi all… Good morning.
Typically I charge on London lampposts and then on trips I use the high speed Fastned or Ionity networks but this Christmas I was considering buying a granny charger to trickle charge my iPace over night. My car is a 2020 SE with a 7kW Ac-Dc onboard charge converter. Using an 11kW lamppost I get a consistent 20mph/32kph which appears to be the maximum in optimal conditions for my vehicle.
I would have to run a 10m/12m (33ft-40ft) extension cable from a regular 13amp socket and then plug in a granny charger to that adding let’s say a further 3m (10ft) to be able to plug in the the cars charging port.
I wanted to ask those with granny charging experience if this is feasible and realistic? Will I get a charge worth the effort?
1. In optimal conditions what is a typical charge rate (mph/kph) for a granny charger on the iPace?
2. Will the 10m to 15m have a serious affect on the charging rate because of resistance? (Anyone who uses an extension cable with your granny charger I’d love to hear from you).
3. Weather (rain & snow) considerations with outdoor usage ?
You thoughts and experience are greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
