Pivi Pro - upgrade?

The current UI CPU is woefully underpowered as all know. Hints are that its replacement, "Pivi Pro" is better. Anybody have contacts that could determine whether Jaguar will offer an upgrade path? Sure just to be a hardware module. If the software UI is significantly different, I also wonder whether we all will get a software upgrade in any case as maintaining multiple versions would be costly for them...

The I-Pace is more than a year old and we've recently received infotainment updates over SOTA so unless I'm missing something there's no way a one year policy is in effect, otherwise they would have stopped updating it last year.
I think you're getting confused about what I'm saying. I'm not talking about some general policy that says "we will only provide owners with upgrades for one year after buying a car". This was specifically in relation to how long they will continue to write and release updates for TouchPro Duo in the I-Pace after they have switched over to the new Pivi Pro. Also, bear in mind it's only information received that I'm passing on.

Thank you for clarifying. That makes more sense and is totally plausible. Touch Pro Duo is effectively EOL at this point.

Could I ask for a few clarifications with regards acronyms please?

EOL?
TPD?
TCU?
BECM?
BCCM?

It is fine if you know what they mean but you don't then the enjoyment of gaining information from a post is severely affected.

By the way it is SOTA (Software Over The Air) not OTA in Jaguar Land Rover language! If we are talking about the I-Pace can we keep to the correct term?

Covid lockdown rant over!!

At the risk of being pedantic (but you opened this can of worms), both OTA and SOTA are correct depending on usage. It is incorrect to say "infotainment can be updated SOTA". But it is correct to say "infotainment can be updated OTA". The acronyms are not Jaguar specific ones. They are acronyms used throughout the software industry, so just because someone hasn't heard of one it doesn't make it wrong to use it.

EOL - End Of Life
TPD - Touch Pro Duo
TCU - Telematics Control Unit
BECM - Body Electric Control Module (you may see this referred to in various ways as Battery or Body/Electric or Electronic control module)
BCCM - Battery Charging Control Module
OTA - Over The Air
SOTA - Software Over The Air

Alex,
To be absolutely honest the only one I couldn't work out was TPD!

As for the longevity of TPD, who knows, but I doubt if it will curtail anytime soon. If Apple and Android change something major, maybe Bluetooth (?) then JLR will have to issue an update! There are rumours that Bluetooth might well be tweaked to aid Covid apps.

Surely 'Infotainment system can be updated by SOTA' is correct?

Dear old JLR universally call it SOTA and not OTA when referring to the Infotainment system.

We know that most other ECUs on the car cannot be updated OTA, far too risky! Well Tesla might venture down that route, but they have a far better understanding of the pitfalls.

I would argue that Over The Air can be very different from Software Over The Air.
A radio programme is sent Over The Air when its reception is via radio frequencies, but it isn't Software Over The Air!

Take firmware for instance. Firmware is or can be very different to software.

All a bit pedantic I know, but there is nothing better to do during lockdown!

Sorry!

By the way where did 'Pivi' come from?

Just to back up ADD I've heard the same thing as him but slightly differently worded. Update for Touch Pro duo to continue for at least 1 year after the last model produced with it. Note that last model wasn't last iPace. TPD is used by a lot of current models not due for immediate replacement.

Googled Pivi it's an uncommon female name amongst other things

Personality No. 11. People with name Pivi tend to be charismatic, cooperative, intuitive, and have a pleasing personality with a gentle manner

Maybe that's the origin

Female names are often given to cars, nothing at all to do with being temperamental I'm sure.

Pivi's user friendly attributions with the name is just too much of a coincidence to be random

Not sure that a male pro is more desirable but it's your choice and if you don't like the outlay you can always rent, either way it costs.

I've owned my I Pace for 6 months and have spent five months of that trying to master the "Touch Pro Duo" system.
I can reliably report that it,too, is a woman.
Absoluteley refuses to be mastered and doesn't understand a word I say to her (in my rather sexy Australian accent).
I may be a luddite, but having invested so much effort into "Touch Pro Duo" I will refuse to come within a country kilometer of a new woman, Pro or not.
I will die with my I Pace (unless its battery dies first).
Give me an entertainment system with knobs, CD player, cassette player and preferably an eight track - and I'm in.
Remember that a faster woman is not necessarily a better woman!

Yeah, we should come back to the topic at hand....

To me the Pivi Pro does look like it's just a change to the UI, but then again I say that from a total stand-point of ignorance. Nonetheless, I can't see it doing any more than the Touch Pro does now... but maybe that is a limitation of the car and its ability to interact with software.
