Recommendations : long charge lead

Post by Pcheaven » Wed Apr 24, 2019 9:04 pm

I am looking for a 10m 32a single phase charging lead.

There are plenty out there. Just a minefield of what is a quality product and what isn’t

Those claiming to be premium cables often suggest they have resin filled connectors and use chip based resistors.

Does this make a difference.

Are there any genuine quality ones available.

What’s people’s thoughts on this one

I bought a 7.5m cable from https://evonestop.co.uk just under three years ago. That's been used 2-3 times every week since, without issue. That was a bespoke length they made up for me.

It looks like they have 10m cables available to order.

I looked at theirs
They are ip54 rated. So not approved for use in the rain.
Jaguar say you can use their leads in the rain. Though can’t find a Ip rating

What is the ip rating of the one you linked in the original post, I don't seem to find it on the page. Worried now as the one I bought is also ip54, but I can return it still: https://evcables.co.uk/index.php/by-car ... ype-2.html

If you scroll down the page they explain ip ratings there, 4 being splash water from any direction....

Thanks all

Went for a 10m 32a one from EV one stop in the end

Got bored looking and overthinking it

It’s a spare lead for when charge bays have been ICED and I have to park in an adjacent bay.

It doesn't have any of that jazz ... but it is a " industrial H07RN-F tough rubber cable"

When Staying with friends I check if the plug feels warm after 30 minutes, and again before going to bed if charging overnight.

I should have done this before my first "weekend stay with friends" trip ... having to use a lash-up with their frayed lawn mower cable prompted me to get something more suitable!

Sorry guys i am a proud new owner of a Jaguar Ipace and i am thinking of saving the cable Jaguar supplied and purchasing one for day to day use. I have a charging station with a type 2 connector, and i need a cable over 7m long but after buying a new car i dont want a cheap Chinese one that could ruin my cars connectors.

The prices seem to range from £160 to nearly £300, i am just wondering what is the difference?

Nothing to be sorry for at all. Welcome to the forum.
I'd not skimp on anything to do with leccy especially something that is carrying high currents.
One of the earlier posts in this forum talk about a 7m cable and that custom lengths are available. That tells me that it is not a cheapo Chinese cable.
Driving "Hirundo Rustica" since 15th Mar 2019. Lovely Jubbly :D :D
