I find the secret to using the gesture tailgate is not to try too hard.

If I do exactly what I'm meant to*, a quick in-out with my foot, then it works just about every time.

However, the mistake I see everyone else making is they try to 'help' the car by wiggling their foot about, kicking in slow motion, or leaving their foot under the car for a bit longer for the car to see it, which never works. Trust the car - foot in (from the side) - foot out.

*OK, so Jag do recommend a wiggle, but I've found a straightforward kick works best.

I've got an SE model with a powered tailgate, but I'm not sure if it has gesture opening. I've tried a few times and I can't get it to work. Is it even a feature on my model? Can't seem to tell from the spec sheet!

SE gets powered tailgate

HSE gets powered gesture tailgate.
S gets a button.

Most owners give up trying to find out whether or not they have this feature, because you look like such a d*** kicking out frantically at your tailgate.
Please... its a Jaguar. You look like a d*** just standing next to it, kicking or not.

(Wait, does d*** mean debutante, or debonair? ;) )

Slow kick from the side, key in your pocket. 1 kick! Not 2

Mine also works absolutely perfectly. It took a little getting used to but once you work out where the sensors are & the speed of the "kick" it has been very easy to operate.

Oh yeah, a straight kick works best.

At least I now know not to do this in public! I tried a few times at home, checking no one was watching first! Definitely looked like a d*** especially as it wasn't installed

Thanks for all the responses

S does get a button as standard, but you can have the powered gesture tailgate on an S as an option, as I do. (had to find something to use up the last of the lease allowance!)
