iPace or Tesla Model 3 Performance

Hello all, I’d be grateful for your advice.

Granted this forum is probably biased toward the iPace but I’d love to hear your honest opinion as to what you would do in my position:

Both these choices are a 2yr, salary sacrifice lease, 10000miles/yr, charge point installed at home. No other choice of spec/colour etc. Price is the monthly reduction in my take home pay and includes insurance, servicing, tyres, breakdown cover etc. Either car will only be available in April/May

Tesla Model 3 Performance, White, £329 per month

Jaguar iPace S, Corris Grey, the basic Sport seats (“8 way”) £324 per month

I’ve driven the Jag, and liked it, but can’t easily test drive the Tesla.

Loyalty aside, what would you do in my position?

The Tesla is a cheaper car, arguably slightly lower build quality, faster, longer range but not as handsome as the i-Pace.

It's really down to personal preference of course but for those prices I'd go for an i-Pace. Both would cost around £800 per month on a personal lease with your terms so either is a fantastic deal. A 40kWh Nissan LEAF costs more to lease!

When I went to look at the Model 3 at our local Tesla Store they had 4 cars lined up to test drive, my impression was, “is that the best they can do.” The Model S is much better but very expensive to finance, so decided to buy the much better looking IPace. With the incentives and residual value the finance cost was a lot less than I expected. The dealer has always given me good service in the past so if there are problems they will be sorted quickly.

I was more or less in the same position as you.
Was looking at an EV and had narrowed it down to either a Model 3 and the |-Pace.

The I-Pace is my first Jaguar ever, so I have no real brand loyalty towards Jaguar. Haven been a Honda driver for many years (Civic, Prelude, NSX, Insight hybrid) and was looking for a replacement for the Insight hybrid I have been using as daily driver for more than three years.

In the Netherlands, the I-Pace is a more expensive car than the Model 3 and also a lot more exclusive. Looked at both and although as an EV the Tesla is probably still the benchmark, the interior is very minimalistic and not too much to my liking. Also the fact that I will see a host of Model 3's everry time I'm on the road makes it much less desirably for me.

So, if the costs are about the same for you, I would get the I-Pace. Basically, IMHO, you simply get more car for your money.

Take neither - save yourself some money and choose the Tesla Model 3 Long Range instead of performance. Unless you really go racing on a race track I doubt you notice the difference in 99% of your drives.

Key question is of course what you want to get out of your car.
Do you make many long trips or have long daily commute than the Tesla is far more practical (longer range, more efficient and faster charger as well as larger charging infrastructure).
Do you find build quality, customer service, general look & feel more important and is range less relevant and when making long distance trips time is less of a factor I would go for the Jaguar.

I was in a similar dilemma prior to deciding on the I-Pace. For me the Model 3 was even cheaper in comparison to my deal for the I-Pace.

In the end the build quality was just a shade better in the Jag. Also whilst I love that huge centre console and the simplicity and clean lines in the interior of the M3. I just couldn't handle the nothingness on the dash behind the wheel :D

Strangely, the Tesla M3 Long Range is considerably more expensive (£430 per month); I am sure the lease company have done a deal with the manufacturers as both the M3P and iPace S are the only cheap options and the spec and delivery times are fixed. If I choose an M3LR or iPace SE/HSE I get full list of options, but much pricier.

I am leaning toward the Jag as I liked it when I drove it, range is adequate for my needs and it is a hatchback (I have a dog). If the Model Y was an option, I’d probably go for that. By the time this 2yr lease is over, there may be even better options for my needs (I really need a “true” estate).

Whatever car you choose , save money to buy some Tesla shares . I did it and it covered more than twice my lease !

I had the M3 performance out for a test drive and cancelled my order as soon as I got back. I found the seat support really lacking on the Tesla. The centre screen with no real controls other than the two buttons on the steering wheel is really off putting. The Jag setup and build quality surpasses the Tesla with ease and although the range and lack of superchargers can be a pain at times, the Jag is a better car.

I would (still) buy an I-Pace on finance but would buy a Model 3 if I paid cash. I love my I-Pace but the Model 3 is (by far) the best value for money (range, safety, software, speed for the performance model, etc...).

You are likely to spend more time at the dealership with the I-Pace (several small bugs) but if you end up at the dealership for the Model 3 it could take months to fix (very poor after sale and long delays for parts).
