Octopus Energy - cheap overnight charging
Re: Octopus Energy - cheap overnight charging
we have 4 adults at home, washing machine and dishwasher every day, 200 miles a week in the car and no solar or battery. My last Agile bill had an average unit rate of 6.95p for the 30 days to 15 Nov. We avoid 4-7 for the big items, but there is nothing else special I do other than work out which will be the cheapest time to charge the car in a week and top up when the price is cheapest. We used 949 kWH in that month.

The peak rate is less than that, closer to 12.9p electric beagle is currently paying - 14.12pChrisMc wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 1:30 pm... £0.05p between 00:00 and 04:30hrs, but is around £0.17p / KwH at other times...electric beagle wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 11:47 amCan anyone who works heavily from home and who consumes both gas and electricity without any solar or home battery comment on the break even point for switching to a cheaper off peak supply?
I don't do an awful lot of miles in the car and not at all sure that it makes sense to switch from my current 12.9p flat rate.

Re: Octopus Energy - cheap overnight charging
Just taken delivery of the 399 pound ohme tyep2 to type 2 unit available on joint offer from ohme & octopus for 199 quid to sit between my dumb untethered podpoint and the car. It came with a nice bag, and the 5m length is just enough to reach. I can just plug it in on nights I need to/want to charge.
It seems to be intuitive I've set a max cost per kwh of 1.5p linked it to the Jag, and setup with octopus agile and plugged it in. It's sat waiting for 2.30 am when it will charge for 2 hours. If I set the rate ton1p it would charge at 2.00 for 30 minutes and again at 4.00 for 30 minutes.
The cure t projection is 46 miles of range In that 2 hour period for 14 pence.
Looks brilliant and hopefully much more reliable than trusting the Jaguar api.
Will update in the morning.
My agile blended tariff rate is about 8p, but we do use the electric oven during peak rate, to cook tea.

Yes. We avoid tumble dryer, washing machine and dishwasher during 4pm-7pm but we use the electric oven as normal (no point letting saving a few quid rule your life).electric beagle wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 12:46 pmSo you have normal usage during the expensive peak window but avoid heavy load I assume like cooking, tumble dryer etc?sunnyjoe wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 12:22 pmI fit your description above and I am on Octopus Agile. I don't do many miles because working from home currently. For the month ending 23 October my average electricity price was 10.3p/kWhelectric beagle wrote: ↑Wed Nov 18, 2020 11:47 amCan anyone who works heavily from home and who consumes both gas and electricity without any solar or home battery comment on the break even point for switching to a cheaper off peak supply?

What is the gas price?
Gas is a separate contract, it could be with Octopus or another supplier, there is no obligatory tie-in. As it happens, I am on an Octopus gas tracker tariff which changes daily tracking wholesale gas prices. I think that could have been a mistake. My gas price today is 2.57p/kWh. Price formula is p = (W * 1.06) + 1.13 where W = wholesale price today (as of midnight) based on the Marex Spectron Day-Ahead Index

Ovi are doing one now where they give you appx 8000 miles free per year. Think the peak is 15p?
Re: Octopus Energy - cheap overnight charging
Has anyone done the Octopus Go with the NewMotion charging unit? This will rely solely on the 'preferred charging period' feature on the Pivi Pro. I have tried this once (12:30 - 4:30 am) and it was working. But unsure of how reliable this is in long run. I am on flat rate 14.7p/kWh and 14.8p standing charge at the moment.
