Recommended and must have apps

Post by Rdm » Wed Nov 25, 2020 12:21 pm

Hi all
I've pushed the button and a MY20 has been ordered, along with Andersen A2 charger.

I'm getting very excited and thinking I can start satisfying that excitement until delivery by playing with some Apps in the meantime.

What are your recommendations and must haves?

I've downloaded so far
*ZapMap
*Jaguar iGuide

Thanks, and apologies if there's a thread on this already, couldn't find one easily.

Plugshare
Wattsup
JLR Route Planner
Wattcat (if on Android)
ABRP
BP Chargemaster

*Just a few to get you started, I have lots more, but depends on where you are based, where you will be travelling too, etc etc

*Many you will have to wait until you get the car and have the VIN and Reg number before registering with them, but nothing to stop you checking them out anyway

I like to use Shell Recharge.
Zop Map is another one. Has a lot of dross on it as well as some useful places to charge.

ZapMap & ABRP are must haves
Jaguar Remote
MyPace (if iOS)
WattCat (if Android)
Ubigi (to track usage of in car SIM)
Then there are lots of individual charging app as the network is rather fragmented, depends where you live/travel, my most used are:
Shell Recharge
BP Chargemaster
Ionity
ChargePoint
Pod Point

I hope that helps.

This is really useful, thanks for all the replies.

Re the charging apps - do any of you subscribe to a network and use that as your main source of power, or do you have accounts with all the charging networks and just use what is convenient?

I'm sure I'll get used to it (and it's where EV is still in its infancy) but I still find it bizzare that I might not be able to just rock up, charge up and pay with contactless

Yes, yes and yes.

Use the best charger that is on or very close to your route. If you have all the main networks ready to go then you are pretty good to go anywhere.
The local networks are a PITA. If you are only visiting an area once then it is not worth looking at how to use those networks.
Thankfully, the filtering that ZapMap allows means you can exclude any networks that you can't or don't want to use.
