The Taycan charging is only 270kW at 800volts, and if the (£200-300) option is not selected then at normal 400volts it will only charge at 50kW!!!

Given the cost of the car, wouldn’t you (if you were Porsche’s bosses) just add the option without even thinking about it?

Plus, the view on the “Tesla Killer” statement is exactly what other here have said and I agree with completely.

Every Taycan should be able to charge at maximum speed. Who would buy a 150k Turbo S without that option?

Like all marketing, you leave out something everyone wants from the "cheaper" option to encourage the upgrade.

Made the mistake of looking at Twitter, I didn't think I could find anything so gloating and righteous as the Brexit debate until I seem to have come across Tesla owners excoriating (in their view) the Taycan. At least Tesla themselves and some saner heads have welcomed it but it really does make me wonder....why all the public self justification?
‘‘Twas ever thus! One of the things that put me off getting a Tesla was the incredibly annoying behaviour of the owners. When the iPace group was set up on Facebook, a whole series of them joined up just to slag the iPace off (to be fair I should say that some diesel drivers did the same - and one Tesla owner lost it with me when o confused him for a diesel driver  ) - “every other ev is rubbish because only Tesla ...” well you have just seen so no need for me to go on. And it is similar on PistonHeads (tho not quite so bad)

On the “turbo” thing I am not quite sure why everyone finds it so ridiculous - if you look at all their other ranges, ignoring gts, The models have a hierarchy where turbo and turbo s are the top level (911, cayenne), so just as logical to have the same on Taycan. And on the other models I think they are all turbo engines so having the base not called turbo is a bit daft but I haven’t seen anyone complaining about that
it’s here! Arrived 29.04.19, HSE, MY20, Caesium Blue, tan interior, black bits

The turbo version is named so because it uses waste battery heat to boil water and run a small steam generator, the energy produced is fed to the drive chain.
On the non turbo version, the water is diverted to the optional extra tea maker.

I know. The focus on the Turbo name seems a little obsessive. At least the car does have a “boost mode” so a bit like those 90’s computers they can get away with it! Also, there’s this:-

Looking at their current range, it makes sense why they have gone for the name.
Listen, it’s just a little humour at Porsche expense. They’ve made a cracking looking car and it’s another BEV to be on a poster on a kids wall. For that alone, I think they’ve done well and we need more car companies producing BEVs no matter what.

Think about this, until now nobody gave Tesla anything to worry/think about, but maybe now the next Model S refresh, or the Model 3 upgrade, may come with 800volt charging because of the benefits Porsche described in their presentation.

Turbo is the contraction of turbine and boost. So it's half exact for an EV. Their is a boost but not with a turbine
But their are turbo mode on computers to and nobody complain of that. So why would it be weird to name an EV with it ? Personally I don't care.
