Tracker?

Post by scapegoat » Thu Aug 15, 2019 12:50 pm

As you can (I believe) see the car location from your phone - does it have a tracker from an insurance perspective?

No. I believe it is illegal for anybody to track you without your consent.

I think he means to track the car if it's stolen. Which I think it does. I think there's a hotline to call on the last tab of the Jaguar app if your car has been stolen and you're supposed to put it in service mode if it's going in for a service so they don't think it has been stolen.

I had to go into this quite carefully when switching insurance from the Audi.
The optional tracker (£200), which I'd selected in the configurator, was cancelled by JLR (and refunded on the invoice) because it was causing battery depletion (range) problems, and they'd (temporarily) stopped installing them. (possibility of retrofitting at some point afer delivery if desired, when they'd sorted the problem)
I checked with the dealer what the status of the car's security was, with and without the tracker, because the new underwriters wanted full details for the quote (old underwriters weren't interested in switching to a car of more than double the value)
The dealer rang me back and told me the default tracker (via the app) was a Thatcham Category 6 device, and the £200 option was Thatcham Category 7 (from memory, I don't have a supporting email)

So the answer to the OP, is yes the iPace does have tracking for insurance purposes

Check with your dealer regarding the Thatcham numbers, in case I've mis-remembered.

Your Insurance will become invalid if you don't renew your In Control subscription when it expires (unless you've got the optional extra tracker presumably)
Ex A3 e-tron (138mpg over 4 years)
Now in Black HSE (every tech option, no bling)

Looking forward to free motoring. (barring the cost of all the kit !)
Guilt free at least.

Great news. Not sure whether it will effect the quotes or not.

Realised it wasn’t going to be cheap to insure - going from a vRS Octavia (c.£27k) and a £70k Jaguar.

But quotes are double at the moment (£800 based on 44 year old, clean license, 10,000 miles and 3 years NCD - company car before that).

That sounds expensive. I was quoted around 500 with points and claims.

It was a while ago, so I cant remember. I've just checked on confused and my wife was quoted £400 with LV, which isnt too far off what she pays for her 8 year old Audi A3. Next provider, One Call is £900.
