Yes they have given me a nice new Range Rover Sport while the I-Pace is being fixed. They called to say that they would start work on it on Monday. I’ll post an update after they have resolved it. Their support has been very good.

It was like the car was possessed, and then randomly after 10 minutes the bonnet opened on its own. They came out and dragged it onto a flatbed lorry and took it to the dealership. I’ve only done 10 miles in it so it hasn’t given me much confidence in the car.
Oh that sucks. :o Getting a new car is supposed to be fun, and that most certainly isn't.

What model year is the car? My '19, with its VIN in the 69500's, had a bunch of 'send it back to the dealer' type problems in the first month after delivery nine months ago, as well as this 12v battery thing just now. I guess I'm wondering if the one you got was an early build too, or if cars are still coming off the line like that now, almost a year later.

I also want to assure you that, despite the problems I've had with it, I think my IPace is a spectacular car. Its a shame that your first impression was so horrible.

Yes it’s a UK 69 plate so recent model. The vin ends in 88084.
The 10 miles that I drove before the issues were great and it is a very nice car so looking forward to getting it back in working condition.

My problems started with the error message "Ok to drive with caution Brake pedal feel reduced", had that for about 2 days and ignored it as i had seen it before and it disappeared. Then on Wed.morning I got THUMP THUMP THUMP when i pressed the breaks, I drove on - driving was fine, but breaking was a big problem! It felt very unsafe! I decided to go to the nearest dealer - this was at 6am in the morning, got there about 6.30am, nobody had arrived yet. I Switched off the car, and tried to switch on again - the car was completely dead. Called Jaguar Assistance and logged the problem with them, and explained the problem to the technicians when they got in. The car is still with them, with no feedback from them as yet.

Update: my car did the same sort of thing again—but starting with "traction battery fault" this time—on Saturday, 5 Jan 2020. Took it in Monday (by then it was doing the "brake pedal" one too).

Got it back today, and they've done another software update and it's not complaining now. Let's see if it's still OK in a month or two! Last time, the update fixed (?) it in late Nov.

(BTW I asked and here in the states at least they are still not doing over the air updates. My dash software now shows not only the mileage but also a green battery-level "gauge" now. I do have the added-range software now, supposedly.)

This sounds like the sort of fault I had with the previous Jaguars I’ve had, the XKs and the FPace all showed random faults when the Batteries were faulty. So I guess the 12volt system on the IPace runs the control computers and low voltage causes all the problems just like in the “old days”.
You would think they could show a warning that Low voltage would cause malfunctions all that thump thump and seizing up cannot do the hardware any good at all.

The cause of my similar symptoms last year was a faulty front electronic power inverter converter or EPIC.
Attached poor quality PDF shows where they are. Might be worth mentioning to any clueless dealers.

Had the same issues as the original poster. Long story short, car has been at the dealer and they claim they replaced two 12v batteries to fix it. Also some sw updates but not sure if this was part of fixing the problem.

I have had no issues since about two weeks so, so-far, so good.

I posted the following yesterday and someone directed me to this group. So I am re-posting here:

"I took delivery of my I-pace 2 months ago and have done about 200 km. The car went dead on me after a month when charging and found to have a "short" requiring replacement of the rear electric motor, inverter and the cabling in between after taking over a week to diagnose the problem. Work required rear suspension lowered and rear sub frame dropped."

Took back the car from dealer today after one month of repair over the Christmas and NY holidays. Hopefully problem fixed.

This happened to me on Sunday, the technician who came out said my battery was down to 7v, I knew that was the end of it. Goes into Jaguar tomorrow and I died again 12 hours later.

He couldn't tell why but he said it was likely the overprotection on the 12v battery had kicked in and stopped it charging hence it drained down to 7v.

He did a couple of up-dates while he was charging the battery.
