Home Charging Rate

Post by KevinPeters » Sun Nov 10, 2019 6:21 pm

Hi all. For those that have a 7kw home charger, what speed does your car charge at?

I had a NewMotion 7.4kw charger fitted this week and I get 5-6%/hour which is only working out at about 3.8kw. I'm not clear why my charger isn't giving the full 7.4kw rate (or maybe the car isn't asking for it?). Any ideas how to troubleshoot? The car doesn't exactly give a lot of info.

Thanks, Kevin

I get the full 7kW. The App reports around 9% per hour. From empty to full takes around 12 hours.

The cable you use can be the cause of a low charge rate.

sounds suspiciously like 3.7 kW, which would be the charge rate for a 16A supply.

Sure it’s been installed/ configured correctly and that it has minimum 32A supply ?

Mine also gives 9% per hour. Check your app (if your charger has one). On my charger, it is possible to vary the current. If yours has that functionality too then just check that it is set to deliver 32 Amps (assuming your supply can handle that).

3.8kW would be 4-5%, if working properly you should see a fairly consisting 9%.

The chargers at work are 3 phase 16A so for I-Pace that is 3.7kW and it shows fairly consistend 4%, initially when started a bit higher and when above 90% SoC is goes to 3% and above 97% is becomes 1-2% till 100% when it becomes 0% and the app indicates between 20-40mins left to charge :-€

I get between 8-13% reported on the app from my car and any other 7kw charger i've used.

Thanks all, for some reason, as we all figured, my charger had only been configured for 3.4kw. NewMotion updated the rate over the internet and this evening it is working at the full 7.4. Time to get onto the Octopus Go tariff!
