Octopus Charging

Post by SEPS » Fri May 22, 2020 11:19 am

Those using Octopus for energy supply here in the UK are probably now aware that irrespective of which tariff you are on, they are offering to pay monies for you to use energy at times this weekend. Granted the times are off peak but are great for timed top ups. Only wish that I had not charged my IPace this week but paying me to charge the car might require a run out to deplete some energy. You do have to sign up for this, there is a deadline and have a working smart meter. Perhaps invite another EV driver to leave their car for you to charge - they get free energy and you get paid. The monies being offered are not that great but hey anything better than nothing.

I have had no notification of this. Is there a link?

Found this, https://octopus.energy/blog/big-switch-on/ It's invite only though.

Even though as and agile user I might get a price plunge email the day before.

We had the invite and are signed up for the deal. Luckily I had not charged up after doing our trip to the supermarket.
Sunday 14:00 - 16:00 @ 2p / kWh.

If there are any of you who would like to join Octopus Energy on the EV tariff ( Octopus Go, 12.30am - 4.30am @ 5pKW ) then we could share the £100 introduction fee.

I got the invite and signed up for 5-7 am at 5p per kWh. The car is sitting at 64% so that will get it up to about 80%. It’s not really about the money for me, more about helping with the grid. The 90p earned won’t change my life! Still cool to be paid to charge my car though.

There was one a couple of Sundays ago. I made £4.93 over 4 hrs.

The on on Sunday is for 2 hours. I registered for afternoon, 2 to 4 i think but I had a choice of another slot 5am to 7am, again I think.

Yes those were the two options. The morning 5-7 one paid a higher rate per kWh (5p vs about 2p from memory). I assume that means there is a greater excess electricity production at 5am than in the afternoon (which would make sense).

Our 2pm -4pm slot worked well for us. -2p Kw.
Car on charge
washing machine on the go
fruit cake in oven

We used 18kw over the period. So a useful if not huge saving.

How did you all do?

Stay Safe :) :)

I didn't get any invite as on agile, however as I suspected I did get price plunge alerts over the weekend, Saturday I had a few half hour slots paying me 10p per kwh, all in all quite good my smart meter was showing 9-12kw draw for most of the 10 hours that the price plunge was over, so all in all wasn't a bad day
