ABRP or Power Cruise Control?

Hi all,

I have been an avid user of Power Cruise Control - love it’s simplicity with instant feedback on driving style versus forecast. It has made long journeys really easy to manage!!

I have just started to use Premium ABRP with OBD2 connection. Just hoping others might have more experience on this forum re: trusting the ABPR forecasted battery % at destination? I have found PCC accurate down to last 2kwh in the battery - so just want to see how ABRP compares for “trusting” the forecast?

Plus - if I lose the run of myself and get a little heavy on accelerator - does ABRP flash any obvious warning? PCC is great at showing the impact of driving style…. Curious does ABRP help make this obvious… or does the Battery% at destination just reduce?

I assume if I drive more conservative- ABRP just updates the destination battery% upward??

It’s clear that ABRP has a better route planner and love waypoint control! Also love ABRP has CarPlay app… so nice pluses! Just curious as to the comparison on trust worthiness versus forecast & feedback +/- on driving style to forecast!

Is there a clear winnner here re accuracy and driving feedback between PCC and ABRP?

thanks
Mike

Which OBD2 adapter are you using? I'm unable to get my Vgate iCar Pro to work with ABRP.

Hi - well for what its worth; I prefer PCC... bust based on little over a week of testing (so take that with whatever pinch of salt it worth!)

PCC - I have found that its actual journey map is more stable (using google maps) and the interface driving feedback is (IMHO) much better. For reasons that make no sense in ABRP I am getting "alternative route" suggestions that are simply not sensible at all (on roads I know well - so based on that I am not going to trust it in areas I am a stranger to)

From a driver feedback point of view on energy used / gained by being conservative or aggressive PCC is much better - I am sure this is a matter of personal taste - but I like my iphone screen showing power consumption and the Google Maps screen for navigation on the car screen. I also find the approaching junction information much better on Google maps. The voice navigation in ABRP drives me nuts - the voice is horrible.

One thing that is strange - when ABRP kicks in to give audio navigation - it cuts out my media playing on the car - so I have to keep reloading the radio every time ABRP gives an audio navigation command. Annoying little bug!! (I am MV2019)

Overall I found the accuracy of ABRP very good +/- approx 2% (which no one could argue with).

So while really wanting to like ABRP as I was looking forward to "one screen" experience - I think I will stay with PCC for the time being - for me it is a better solution. However I will use ABRP in my wife's MachE as no PCC support for Ford and no sign of it coming anytime soon... and like I said +/- 2% is still a tool worth having!

I had the same experience but I'm not very worried about that as I'm using the car satnav for navigation. I found it good enough for my needs and I love to see the map on the driver dashboard.
I set the ABRP display to "detailed" and shrink the map in order to see on the phone just the energy related info. It's not like PCC but it's close.

With regards to accuracy, I agree that PCC can be trust down to the last kwh. However, even if ABRP is not showing the kwh, I can ensure it has the same accuracy: I know the formula PCC is using and I can guarantee ABRP is using the same formula with maybe 0.5 kwh of less usable energy (a little bit more conservative).

Ok - the vLink MC+ worked with ABRP no problem (connect to it via ABRP settings) - but it would not work with PCC!!

Button on vLink MC+ is only needed when setting up initial connection.

hope that helps!

OK, thanks for the feedback.

That’s disappointing as same problem as with the OBDLink CX dongle. The latter similarly works with ABRP but not PCC (using iPhone 12pro with latest iOS).

I actually prefer PCC over ABRP most of the time and use it in conjunction with the car’s own satnav which I prefer over CarPlay because the former displays in the car’s dash. I mainly use ABRP for route planning; the main drawback of PCC for me is that it doesn’t allow you to plan the route before getting into the car and making the OBDII connection.

Stuck with using the inferior PCC dongle. I think PCC are shooting themselves in the foot and reducing their potential customer base by not making their app compatible with these higher quality dongles, especially as their own dongle is often not available on the Amazon site.
