If buying used with no warranty, is it worth taking out Extended Jaguar Warranty?

So I've spoken with Jaguar about an extended warranty.

Although I couldn't get the quote onilne, it sounds like there are 3 you can buy, with the most expensive being the Gold standard.
This does sound like only a 7 day rental and they'll resuce the vehicle if required.

Now the vehicle(s) I've looked at with come with an extended warranty, although none of them are with Jag, they're like 3rd party companies.

Does anyone have experience with this? Are there any tips and tricks or am I wasting my money to sleep at night?

Cheers

I went for the Jaguar Extended Warranty with Assistance which covers everything including breakdown.
It is administered by Car Care Plan
several others offer similar warranties the cost will vary according to milage and history, the car may need an inspection before acceptance.

I stuck with Jaguar as my thoughts were it is all with them should something go wrong. Plus the car would generally need to go to Jaguar to be looked at as there are probably not that many other generic garages that could look at it. I have used it once and to be honest all went with no problems at all. Plus I have the assistance and used that just last week as had a puncture and once again all went OK. I also believe the Jaguar one includes for MOT fails as well.

I previously had a Range Rover Evoque which I extended warranty directly with JLR for 2 years and my I-Pace (MY2020) has now had 1 year of extended warranty. The reason, every now and then things stop working or they stop working well on the cars from JLR and it is far more expensive to have them repaired than the cost of the yearly warranty. My Evoque had 3 repairs and I think that totalled approx £4k but I only spent approx £700-800 per year in warranty.

At the end of the day, if you come to sell a 3-5 year old car with everything working, you’ll get more money than a car with a few things broken. Even if you don’t think you will, a car with everything working sells quicker and closer to the asking price, so effectively, the extended warranty is going towards your resell value.

This was the first year of my I-Pace extended warranty and the centre console SIM module stopped working at the beginning of the year. I don’t change SIM cards at all so I didn’t break it, in fast I have never changed the SIM since it was installed at the dealership in 2019, so it’s just stopped working. The repair was approx. £1,600, which is far higher than the warranty that I paid for it.

Plus, if anything else goes wrong for the rest of the year, I just book a slot with the dealership and they fix it with genuine Jaguar parts; it’s the piece of mind for me.

So in my view, you should (if you can) buy the extended warranty and (if possible) go for the highest option so that you know everything (within reason) is covered.

Hi fa147

According to Jaguar (UK) Warranty department you can buy an ‘Extended Warranty’ for up to 10 years from Jaguar. I forget if this is 10 from registration or 10 years from expiry of original manufactures warranty but at a minimum that would be 7 years. There are also different types of warranty. Some are ‘limited’ others ‘Gold standard’ it’s important to know what you have or are buying?

Do I have Road side assistance with that? Is that in Europe too?

I forgot to mention that I was also able to sell my Evoque £2.5k above AutoTrader normal guide price (for the same spec/mileage/condition car) as it was mid-warranty (which is transferable to the new owner) and, given that I had JLR warranty, it ensured that the regular services were undertaken.

As such having spent £2.1k to £2.4k over the 3 years, I managed to get approx £6.5k of value out of it. This might not the be the same for everyone, but I will always look to take out extended warranty on my JLR cars where they are applicable.

When you said it has 2 years of warranty, is that 2 years of manufacturer's warranty because you bought it at one year old? As your JLR warranty comes to an end you should be able to extend via JLR, although I shudder to think of the prices, they may start to charge given the failure rates we see anecdotally here.

Yes, I bought a 2 year old ipace hse, approved used with 2 years warranty (+free service & home charger). so i'm still in the 3rd year of the manufacturer warranty, but will then go onto 1 year of extended warranty with jaguar.
i'm wondering if i am able to extend it further and if this needs to be done during the 3rd year (i.e. this year), or can be done next year while under the extended warranty.

jaguar website allows me to get a quote but i am hesitant to go for it in case it just replaces the 1 year extended warranty i already have, as it doesn't clearly state either way.

Said politely, with a smile, in jest….

Am I drowning in money? Will I be driving down Sloane Street with my fake Maverick sunglasses on, one arm on the wheel with the other on the passenger headrest in my gold leaf plated iPace with a gold medallion hanging from neck and diamond encrusted door handles? Is my Daddy a prince, a sultan, Juan Carlos of Spain or Donald Trump?

If you don’t associate with one single item above and aren’t that ‘rich and stupid’ you need a warranty.

From a different perspective… Would a Lloyds insurance broker buy a warranty? Was Wimbledon covered by insurance in the pandemic? Do I know how much it costs to replace one headlight with labour on this car?

A warranty is both insurance and an ‘Asset’…it will make you money. 3 years worth of premium warranty at £800 a year costs less than replacing one head light on this car.

In the UK the IPace comes with a 3 year warranty as standard, but this can be extended. As long as the car is still within the 3 year warranty period then extending it's easy, just a matter of paying JLR. Once the 3 year warranty has expired an inspection is needed at a JLR dealer (costs around £250 to £300 I believe) before the warranty can be extended.

You should not assume that a car that which has had its 3yr warranty expire will automatically get an extended warranty, it has to have an inspection, if there is a problem YOU will have to pay to repair the car. That can be expensive and time consuming
